STORYLINE

2012: The Beginning

Opened in Kenya as PRIMEDIA

Primedia, established in 1994, opened its business in Nairobi Kenya. In 2012, it became the leading African-focused media and advertising group targeting premium consumers on the move. Proud to possess a broad portfolio of broadcasting and out-of-home assets, covering a wide range of advertising opportunities including the largest Digital-Out-Of-Home LED screen in Kenya and mall media concessions in some of the biggest malls in Nairobi.

2016: Installed the Largest Outdoor LED Screen

PRIMEDIA OOH Media Positioning

Primedia OOH Africa launched the new Super-LED screen in the heart of Nairobi in 2016. The screen measured 12m x 9m and was the largest to be installed anywhere across the East African region. Located on the busy Uhuru Highway in-bound into the Nairobi Central Business District, just north of The University of Nairobi’s main campus, the Super-LED screen was a first for Kenya with its world-class technology, and reliability and innovative booking options. The Super-LED went live on Thursday, 8 September 2016, and offered an unprecedented opportunity for brands looking for new Out-Of-Home Advertising opportunities in Nairobi.

2018: The Partnerships

LG Electronics: Distributor and visual media installation partner | Huawei: Networking solutions partner

The expanded demand for new technology in DOOH necessitated dealing on board new partnerships including pacts with electronic giants LG and Huawei. The partnership was a long-term relationship expected to increase the quality of advertisements offered by Primedia including the installation of high-quality visual screens for DOOH at some of the major malls in Nairobi. This fresh new partnership image illustrated the Kenyan outdoor advertising demand lending more energy to the quality of digital advertising solutions. Working in partnership with LG Electronics for quality high-end screens and installation services across our media network. We also partnered with Huawei on some of the media networking connectivity as well as Wi-Fi solutions that we still offer.

2019: The Kenya Railways Corporation - Partnership

The Partnership solidified us as THE EXCLUSIVE ADVERTISING PARTNER on the Kenya Rail Network (SGR and NCR)

The partnership was designed to tap revenues for Kenya Railways from the digital and out-of-home advertising (OOH and DOOH) which is growing by about 11% globally. Primedia being a dominant OOH Advertising brand by this time, grew to be the exclusive digital and transit advertising concessionaire for The Kenya Railways Corporation. The concession was to identify and create strategic advertising placement opportunities in the just-completed Standard Gauge Railway Network stations, as well as installation of digital and static media spaces for the Nairobi Commuter Rail Network as the stations within Nairobi and the surrounding suburbs, get revamped.

2020: Free WiFi Launch

Installation of Free Wifi 6 - Public transit internet.

Digital Mara Media Limited launched free public Wi-Fi points at the Nairobi Commuter Rail, Nairobi Central station to help residents better use technology. As Kenyans continue embracing technological modernities, ICT has become a key cog in that wheel and advertisers cannot afford to be left behind. A study conducted by Pew Research in 2017 found that 80% of adults in Kenya reported owning a mobile phone, with 30% owning a smartphone and 50% owning a basic phone and the numbers keep on growing. No matter how you look at it, Kenya’s mobile penetration is higher than the average of the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa and continues to snowball as more and more previously unconnected people, and regions in the country get access to mobile services. 5G technology is now being trialled in Kenya.

Primedia Rebrands to Digital Mara Media In extended Deal With Kenya Railways

Kenya’s largest digital and transit advertising firm Digital Mara previously Primedia together with the Kenya Railways Corporation refresh branding opportunities to boost experiences for brands, advertisers and rail passengers using services offered by Kenya Railways, including the Standard Gauge Railway and the Nairobi Commuter Rail. The expanded deal on board partnerships pacts with electronic giants LG and Huawei. The revised deal is to increase the quality of OOH and DOOH advertisements offered on the Kenya Railways, stations and services in the newly revamped Nairobi Commuter Rail as well as the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the Nairobi Commuter Rail. The rail operator is backing the enhanced deal to expand revenues derived from its in-house advertising channel - Digital Mara Media Limited.
